Tell Congress: We need a transportation system that moves beyond oil

Congress is currently working on a transportation bill that will fund our nation’s roads, bridges and transit systems in the years to come.

We can have a transportation system that reduces oil use and carbon pollution, but only if we start making smarter investments now. Tell your members of Congress to invest in repairing our crumbling infrastructure and creating a 21st century transportation system that expands access to public transportation, biking and walking.

America’s aging transportation system is in dire need of repair and updating. It is critical that Congress shows real leadership by repairing our current crumbling infrastructure and expanding access to clean, convenient, and safe transportation options.

More Americans are using public transportation, biking and walking to get around than ever before; however, many people still do not have access to these options. Congress should increase funding for, and access to, these transportation options, which can reduce our dependence on oil and make our communities cleaner and more vibrant. In doing so, Congress must increase safety for all road users, including cyclists and pedestrians.

Additionally, transportation legislation should establish a national freight strategy that relies on multi-modal shipping -- not just expanding highways -- and ensure that the public continues to have meaningful input on transportation projects that will impact local communities and the environment.

Again, I urge you to develop transportation legislation that repairs our existing infrastructure and expands access to clean, convenient, and safe transportation options.
